Barton men’s basketball keeps rolling and stays perfect, 88-64 over Elizabeth City State

WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's basketball team (6-0), ranked No. 20 in NCAA Division II, remained unbeaten on the season with an 88-64 win over Elizabeth City State (2-3) Tuesday evening at Wilson Gymnasium.

The Bulldogs – who continued their best start in six years – had tremendous scoring balance on the night with six players reaching double figures including a game-high 19 points from senior all-league forward Bobby Stenborg (Garner, N.C.).  Stenborg also led Barton with seven of the team's 23 assists.

Senior guard Matt Woods (Swannanoa, N.C.) added 15 points for the Bulldogs, who led at halftime by a 39-30 score before breaking the contest open after intermission.  Barton scored the first nine points in the second half and never looked back.

Elizabeth City State, losers of two straight contests, was led by Justin Faison (Waldorf, Md.) with 15 points but was the lone visitor to score in double figures.  The Vikings also hit just three-of-17 three-point attempts.

Barton, meanwhile, shot 54 percent (32-of-59) from the field and led by as many as 33 points – 88-55 with 2:48 remaining in the contest.  Junior guard Michael Boykin (Clinton, N.C.) added 13 points for the Bulldogs, who held a 38-24 advantage in rebounding.

Barton remains at home to take on Shaw next Tuesday, November 27, at 7:00 p.m., at Wilson Gymnasium.  Elizabeth City State takes on USC Aiken in Aiken, S.C., on Sunday afternoon beginning at 3:30 p.m.
