HIGH POINT, N.C. – Barton College sophomore Michael Boykin has been named the Conference Carolinas Men's Basketball Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.
Boykin scored 24 points, grabbed seven rebounds and collected three steals – all season-highs – in leading the Bulldogs to a 95-78 victory over Emmanuel College on Saturday.
The 6-1 guard did most of that work in the first half, registering 18 points, four boards and all three steals in the opening period as Barton built a 53-34 halftime cushion.
The performance by the Clinton, N.C., resident helped Barton improve to 3-0 in league play so far this season.
The player of the week award is the first in the career of Boykin, who was last year's freshman of the year in the league. It is also the first received by a Barton player this year.
