MIAMI – The Barton College men's basketball team remains No. 10 in the latest D2SIDA Southeast Region Poll released on Monday.

The Bulldogs held ground at that position for a second straight week despite dropping to 2-4 after losing a 94-88 decision at then-nationally-ranked No. 22 and regionally-ranked No. 3 UNC Pembroke.

Barton has already played three games against regionally-ranked opponents this season, going 1-2 in those contests.

Even after its win over the Bulldogs, UNCP (3-1) slipped one spot to No. 4 in this week's voting, which is conducted by Division II members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Carson-Newman University climbed past the Braves into the No. 3 position after improving to 6-0 with a pair of convincing victories, including a 99-69 thrashing of Columbus State University, which was ranked No. 6 in the region at the time.

Queens University and Lincoln Memorial University, both 5-0, share first place in the poll for a fourth straight week, each receiving three first-place votes and 57 total points.

Rounding out the top five behind Carson-Newman and UNCP is Francis Marion University, which improved to 4-0 on the year with a 103-88 win over Shaw University. The Patriots climbed three spots from a week ago to reach No. 5.

University of Mount Olive also jumped three spots, from No. 9 to No. 6. The Trojans (3-1) did not play last week, but will visit UNC Pembroke tonight.

Three teams are making their 2017-18 debut in the poll this week. Lander University (2-1) and Flagler College (3-1) tied for the No. 7 spot, and Clayton State University (2-1) moved into the No. 9 spot directly ahead of Barton.

Lander downed Wingate University, 76-59, Flagler defeated Saint Leo University, 75-70, and Clayton State beat King University, 83-68, last week.

They took the place of Augusta University (No. 5), Columbus State (No. 6) and Limestone College (No. 7), which all fell out after suffering multiple losses.

Barton will begin Conference Carolinas play this week, hosting Belmont Abbey College on Wednesday night and Erskine College on Saturday afternoon.
