MIAMI – After dropping a pair of games this weekend in the 45-Second Classic, Barton slipped to eighth in this week's D2SIDA Southeast Region Poll.
The Bulldogs (0-2) fell two spots after losing to a pair of Peach Belt Conference powers, Augusta University (80-72) and Young Harris College (84-75). Augusta remains No. 4 in the poll after downing both BC and University of Mount Olive.
Barton is the higher of two teams in the poll with at least one loss. The other is Wingate University, which moved into a tie for the No. 10 spot despite going 1-1 over the weekend.
The top five positions remain unchanged. Queens University and Lincoln Memorial University remain tied for the No. 1 spot, followed by UNC Pembroke and Augusta. All four teams went 2-0 on opening weekend.
Columbus State University, which has not opened its season, remains in the No. 5 slot. Limestone College, which shared the top spot in the Conference Carolinas preseason poll with Barton, moved into the spot previously held by Barton at No. 6. The Saints were followed by Carson-Newman University in seventh and then the Bulldogs.
USC Aiken, which has yet to kick off the year, remains ninth. Newberry College moved into the poll this week, joining Wingate in the tenth-place tie.
After visiting Elizabeth City State University on Tuesday night, Barton will face another regionally-ranked opponent on Friday in the first round of UMO's Pickle Classic. The Bulldogs will square off against Virginia Union University, which is ranked No. 7 in the Atlantic Region after splitting a pair of games on opening weekend.
The D2SIDA poll is administered and voted upon by Division II members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
