HIGH POINT, N.C. – The Barton College baseball team placed five players on the 2019 All-Conference Carolinas Second Team, league officials announced recently.

The following Bulldogs were named to the all-league second team:  junior shortstop JoJo Allen (Clarksville, Tenn.), junior catcher Brayden Olson (Spokane, Wash.), senior catcher Juan Martinez (Weston, Fla.), freshman outfielder Jacob Marcos (Miami, Fla.) and junior pitcher Jakob Ryan (Carrollton, Va.).

Allen is second on the team in batting average (.304) and ranks first in doubles (15) and slugging percentage (.497) to go along with four home runs and 28 RBI while Olson has three round-trippers and 21 runs batted in.  Meanwhile, Martinez leads the squad in home runs (seven) and slugging percentage (.497) and has driven in 31 runs.

Marcos had an outstanding first year with the Bulldogs:  ranking first in numerous offensive categories including batting average (.367), runs scored (44), hits (69), total bases (91), on-base percentage (.462) and stolen bases (15).

Ryan leads the squad in victories (five) to go along with three complete games, one shutout and a team-leading 76 strikeouts.  Ryan was named league pitcher of the week on Tuesday, March 23, thanks to a 17-strikeout performance against King.

Second-year mentor Jim Chester was named the 2019 Conference Carolinas Coach of the Year.   Chester led the Bulldogs to a 19-game improvement over last season and a second-place finish in the league regular season standings this spring.  Barton is also one win off of tying the school single-season mark for victories.

Barton (31-18), the second seed in the 2019 Conference Carolinas Tournament Championship, will take on third-seeded Mount Olive (29-13) in a winner's bracket contest later tonight at 7:00 p.m., at Ashmore Field in Tigerville, S.C.
