WILSON, N.C. – The Barton baseball team (14-8, 3-3) rallied from a two-run deficit to defeat Chowan (7-4-1, 3-2), 7-6, Sunday morning in the third and final game of a Conference Carolinas series at Nixon Field.

With the score tied at six in the bottom of the seventh inning, Barton junior shortstop JoJo Allen (Clarksville, Tenn.) crossed the plate with the winning run on a Chowan error with two outs.

Chowan scored four runs in the top of the sixth inning – started off by an RBI double from Marquise Lanier (Warsaw, Va.) – to take a 6-4 advantage but couldn't hold the lead.

Barton senior catcher Juan Martinez (Weston, Fla.) drove in two runs while Allen and senior outfielder Troy Maslowski (Cary, N.C.) both added two hits and an RBI as the Bulldogs won their first league series since a home sweep of Southern Wesleyan on April 14 and 15, 2017.

Barton junior Fredrick May (Folsom, Calif.) (1-0) earned the victory after holding Chowan scoreless over the final four innings in addition to two strikeouts while Jack Kane (Lake St. Louis, Mo.) fell to 1-1 after taking the loss for the Hawks.

Barton hits the road to take on Winston-Salem State in Winston-Salem, N.C., on Tuesday beginning at 6:00 p.m., while Chowan travels to Florence, S.C., to face Francis Marion on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m., as well.
