TIGERVILLE, S.C. – The Barton College baseball team (11-7, 1-2) pulled off an improbable doubleheader split with No. 2 North Greenville (8-4, 2-1) Saturday afternoon in Conference Carolinas play at Ashmore Park.  The Crusaders pitched a shutout in the first contest, 9-0, before the Bulldogs rallied from five runs down to win in 11 innings in the nightcap by an 11-7 score.

Game One – North Greenville 9, Barton 0
The Crusaders' Michael Giacone (Huntington Beach, Calif.) improved to 3-0 on the year after pitching five scoreless innings of no-hit baseball in addition to 10 strikeouts while Adam Sasser (Evans, Ga.) hit a two-run home run in the victory.

North Greenville was aided by a pair of Barton errors which led to two unearned runs.  Barton junior Colby Shimmel (Windsor, Pa.) fell to 1-1 after suffering the loss.  The Crusaders' Connor Driscoll (Ridgeland, S.C.) added three hits and two runs batted in for the home team.

Game Two – Barton 11, North Greenville 7 (11 innings)
Barton senior catcher Juan Martinez (Weston, Fla.) hit a two-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to force extra innings for the win before the Bulldogs scored four in the top of the 11th as the visitors rallied from a 7-2 deficit to stun the Crusaders and salvage the split.

Freshman outfielder Jacob Marcos (Miami, Fla.) came up big for the Bulldogs, hitting two-run doubles in both the eighth and 11th innings.  The latter double was the game-winner as Marcos finished with three hits and four RBI.

Barton sophomore Colby Warren (Roanoke Rapids, N.C.) (1-3) pitched three scoreless innings to go along with three strikeouts for the win while North Greenville's Brent Herlong (Lake View, S.C.) (0-1) was tagged with the loss.  The Crusaders' John Michael Faile (Boiling Springs, S.C.) drove in two runs in the setback.

Senior outfielder Troy Maslowski (Cary, N.C.) added a two-run insurance single in the top of the 11th as well and drove in three runs for the Bulldogs, who totaled 18 hits in the contest.

Barton – one win away from tying last year's victory total – returns home to take on Catawba on Tuesday at Nixon Field beginning at 2:00 p.m., while North Greenville hosts Palm Beach Atlantic on Monday at 3:30 p.m.
