WILSON, N.C. – The Barton college baseball team (4-4) split a seven-inning doubleheader header with Nyack (N.Y.) Sunday afternoon at Wilson Field.  The Bulldogs won the first contest by a 4-3 score while the Warriors held on to win the nightcap, 4-3, to salvage the split.

Game One – Barton 4, Nyack 3 (seven innings)
Barton senior catcher Juan Martinez (Weston, Fla.) broke a three-all tie with the game-winning, solo home run in the bottom of the fourth inning while sophomore Alex Hart (Raleigh, N.C.) (1-1) pitched four innings of relief in notching the victory.  Hart allowed just two runs while striking out seven batters.

Nyack's Yoni Rodriguez (Miramar, Fla.) drove in all three runs for the Warriors and hit a two-run home run in the fourth frame to tie the contest at three before Martinez's heroics.  T.J. Lopez (Coconut Creek, Fla.) (0-1) was tagged with the loss despite going the distance.  Barton sophomore first baseman Colby Warren (Roanoke Rapids, N.C.) added two hits and a run-scoring double.

Game Two – Nyack 4, Barton 3 (seven innings)
The Warriors jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first frame and were able to hold on for the victory.  The opening frame for Nyack was aided by a pair of errors which led to two unearned runs.  David Gauthier (Mont Saint-Hilaire, CANADA) and Matthew Johnson (Plantation, Fla.) had two-run singles in the inning.

Barton scored all three runs in its half of the fifth highlighted by a two-run double from senior first baseman Hunter Pearre (Poolesville, Md.) but Nyack was able to hold on to salvage the split.  Pearre finished with three hits to lead the Bulldogs offensively.

On the mound, Warren (0-2) was tagged with the loss while Nyack's Seth Crummer (Trinidad, Colo.) (1-0) earned the victory and David De Genaro (Sebring, Fla.) pitched three scoreless innings for his first save of the year.

Barton remains at home to host Queens (N.C.) – a first-year program – on Wednesday afternoon beginning at 2:00 p.m., while Nyack returns home to take on Queens on Friday, February 22, at 6:00 p.m.
