MIAMI, Fla. – Barton College's Colby Warren will compete in the 2018 College Select-Home Run Derby in late December at Marlins Park. The event is sponsored by POWER SHOWCASE.
Warren, a sophomore infielder from Roanoke Rapids, N.C., was named the Conference Carolinas Freshman of the Year in 2018 after starting all 48 games while hitting .313 with a team-leading 12 home runs and 31 runs batted in. Warren's teammate – junior Frederick May (Folsom, Calif.) – will participate in the College Select All-American Game (AL vs. NL).
In the derby, each player will receive a total of five-minutes, which will be broken into two rounds. The players will also receive a chance with the Spalding Gold Bonus Balls. If a player hits the ball for a home run, he will receive another one until he makes an out.
The limits include three minutes with a wood bat, a 30-second time out and two minutes with a wood bat. The top two finalists will advance to the Championship Round on Sunday, December 30. A wildcard also advances: a player who hits the furthest home run and does not finish in the top two, then he will also advance to the finals.
The POWER SHOWCASE in Miami, Florida, will feature 200-plus of the world's best young players. It's a unique opportunity for fans and Major League Baseball scouts alike to see the best international on domestic turf.
