HIGH POINT, N.C. – For the second time this season, Barton College senior Trent Fennell has been named the Conference Carolinas Baseball Pitcher of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.
Fennell fanned seven batters and tossed five innings to improve his record to 6-4 on the season for the Bulldogs. The Dunn, N.C. resident allowed just two earned runs and kept the Crusaders off the scoreboard until the bottom of the fifth inning as BC defeated nationally-ranked No. 14 Belmont Abbey 6-5 on April 14.
Fennell leads the league in strikeouts (97) and strikeouts per nine innings (13.64). He is also tied for fifth with six wins on the season.
This is the second time this season that Fennell has garnered pitcher of the week accolades and the third time in his career that he has been recognized.
The Bulldogs wrap-up the non-conference portion of their regular season schedule with a 6 p.m. matchup on Tuesday against Catawba College in Salisbury, N.C. Barton closes the regular season by hosting North Greenville University for a three-game series. BC will honor a pair of seniors on April 21 at Nixon Field with first-pitch scheduled for 12 p.m.
