WILSON, N.C. – Barton College baseball players Calvin Hawke, Troy Maslowski and Andrew Webster have each been named to the 2017 NCCSIA College Division All-State Baseball Team, the organization announced Friday.
Hawke and Webster are receiving all-state recognition for the second straight season, while Maslowksi earned the honor for the first time in his young career. A total of 26 players representing nine North Carolina Universities and Colleges were named to the 2017 NCCSIA College Division All-State Teams
Hawke, a senior from Wendell, N.C., was named as a First Team infielder after finishing the season with a .391 batting average, the second highest mark on the team. The shortstop received multiple all-region accolades following the season and was named an honorable mention all-american by the NCBWA.
He totaled 68 hits during the season, including nine doubles, a school-record five triples and eight home runs, while driving in 38 RBI and scoring 45 runs. Hawke led the team with 28 stolen bases and recorded a .950 fielding percentage over 48 games and also earned a spot on the Conference Carolinas All-Conference First Team..
Webster, a senior from Pittsboro, N.C., was recognized as a the First Team catcher after leading the team in batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, total hits, home runs and total RBI. He joined Hawke on the All-Conference First Team and NCBWA all-region team as well. Webster was also honored as an all-american by three separate organizations, the fourth Barton baseball player to receive such an award.
He turned in a .401 batting average during the season with 75 total hits, including 16 doubles and 21 home runs, to go along with a .511 on-base percentage and an .824 slugging percentage. He drove in a league-high 58 RBI and scored 58 runs of his own in 51 games, while drawing 39 walks.
Maslowski was the third member of the Barton baseball team to receive all-state recognition and was also a second team all-conference performer.
The outfielder from Cary, N.C. played in all 51 games for Barton and hit .363, totaling 58 hits, including 10 doubles, one triple and six home runs. He also scored 36 runs and drove in 22 RBI. A two-way player, Maslowski also appeared in seven games on the mound with three starts, compiling one save with a 4.43 ERA and 13 strikeouts over 22.1 innings.
Nominees were submitted by North Carolina sports information professionals and voted on by the NCCSIA members.
Founded in 2002, The North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) is comprised of sports information professionals from NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA and independent institutions from the state of North Carolina.
The purpose of the organization is to promote collegiate athletics at all schools. Membership is open to anyone affiliated with a college, university or conference located in North Carolina, and whose area of responsibility lies within sports information.
NCCSIA selects all-state teams in the University (Division I) and College (Division II, III, NAIA) divisions for men's and women's basketball, men's and women's soccer, volleyball, softball and baseball.
