Hawke recognized by CoSIDA as 2017 Academic All-American

AUSTIN, TEXAS –  Barton College's Calvin Hawke earned a spot on the 2017 Academic All-America® Division II Baseball team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

The Division II Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2016-17 Division II Academic All-America® teams program.

Twenty-three of the 33 members of the 2017 CoSIDA Academic All-America® NCAA Division II baseball teams have at least a 3.80 G.P.A., including six student-athletes who maintain a perfect 4.00 G.P.A. The 11 members of the first team have an average G.P.A. of 3.97.

Hawke, who was honored earlier this month as member of the CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team, was a four-year starter for the Bulldogs, leading them to over 90 total wins and three appearances in the conference tournament. He ranks inside the program's Top 10 for career batting average (.355), hits (215), triples (7) and stolen bases (53), while also being among the all-time leaders in numerous single season categories.

This season he ranked second on the Bulldogs with a .391 batting average and has twice been named as an all-region award winner during the postseason, as well as an honorable mention NCBWA all-american. He totaled 68 hits during the season, including nine doubles, a school-record five triples and eight home runs, while driving in 38 RBI and scoring 45 runs. Hawke led the team with 28 stolen bases and recorded a .950 fielding percentage over 48 games and also earned a spot on the Conference Carolinas All-Conference First Team.

Career academic and athletic awards for Hawke include: 2017 first team all-conference, 2017 Murphy Osborne Award winner, 2016 second team all-conference, 2016 conference scholar-athlete of the year, and an eight-time conference presidential honor roll and Barton dean's list member.

Off the field, Hawke has compiled a 3.97 GPA as a business administration and mathematics double major, and is a member of Barton's Sigma Beta Delta chapter (Business Honors Society) and Alpha Chi society (Academic Honors Society). He was also selected as Chief Marshal and was chosen to represent Conference Carolinas as one of two athletes able to attend the NCAA Student-Athlete Leadership Forum and participate in the NCAA's 360 Leadership Academy.
