PEMBROKE, N.C. –  Barton College's Andrew Webster became the fourth all-american in the history of the Barton baseball program on Wednesday, receiving the honor from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.

Webster joins Jody O'Neal ('96), Dennis Blackmon ('04) and Brock Godwin ('06) as the only Bulldogs to receive all-american recognition. He was also selected as a preseason all-american honoree before the start of the 2017 season, following through on what many expected to be another stellar year for the power hitting catcher.

A senior from Pittsboro, N.C., Webster was chosen as a the NCBWA All-American First Team catcher after leading the Bulldogs in batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, total hits, home runs and total RBI. He has also been named to two different all-region teams this season and was the recipient of the 2017 NSCA All-American Athlete of the Year award in late-April.

He turned in a .401 batting average during the season with 75 total hits, including 16 doubles and 21 home runs, to go along with a .511 on-base percentage and an .824 slugging percentage.

Webster led all NCAA divisions in total home runs for most of the season and currently ranks in a tie for fifth overall and his slugging percentage is the third highest in the nation, while his on-base percentage ranks inside the Top 20 of Division II. He drove in 58 RBI and scored 58 runs of his own in 51 games, while drawing 39 walks.

In total, five members of Conference Carolinas were honored across the three teams with four selections to the first team.
