WILSON, N.C. – The Division 2 Athletics Directors Association (D2 ADA) has honored 51 Barton College student-athletes as recipients of the 2016-17 D2 ADA Academic Achievement Awards, the organization announced Friday.
The awards are presented to student-athletes at dues-paying member institutions who:
- have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale
- have attended a minimum of two years (four semesters) of college level work
- have been an active member of an intercollegiate team during his/her last academic year
Fourteen of Barton’s’ 51 honorees achieved the required level of academic success while also competing on a championship team in 2016-17: eight in women’s volleyball, five in men’s volleyball and one in men’s tennis. Eleven members of BC’s baseball team were honored, the most for any of Barton’s 21 intercollegiate sports.
A total of 481 student-athletes representing eight Conference Carolinas schools were recognized, part of a record 10,644 student-athletes across 183 NCAA Division II institutions honored nationally.
